(no subject)

Hello journal.  I don't write in you anymore.  Why is that?  Am I too busy for you?  Do I not have interesting things to share?  Please help me understand you.  I miss you and yet I have forgotten you in a way.  Come back to me soon.  You were such a good friend.

I'm gonna babble for a while

This is the post when all you technophiles out there grin your smug little grins and chortle at the sad state of affairs my life is in as represented by my music collection.
Last Wednesday I picked up the kids after work to have dinner with them.  We had a nice dinner, and afterward we drove around town a little bit, listening to the mp3 player plugged into the aux jack in the car.  Here are some techie details:  I have a pretty good collection of cds, but some of them are old copies from long ago, some are weird little sample cds.  I use windows media player to rip the tracks (as I guess no one does anymore).  I have a little sansa mp3 player I got on clearance at Walmart.  It doesn't do much in the way of display but it's got 8mb and it ended costing me only $25 so I thought I got a steal.  So there are 1400 songs on it, most of which are listed as "Unknown Artist".  Hey, I just push play all and keep it on shuffle.

So Son #2 is in the front seat.  The kid in the front seat gets DJ rights.  He is flipping through an old Sony sampler and comes across The Shaman's "Ebeneezer Goode".  I am chuckling as the faces of my children turn to me as if to say "Really, Dad?" as the 4 minute intro drums on.  "Are there any lyrics?" asks son #2.  "Yes, wait til you here them," I say "they're hysterical."  And then the observation that won the day:  Son #1 says "Sounds like the music they play at Zap Zone."  LMAO.  I will never hear it without thinking of Lazer Tag again...

AMC vs USA

You know what ruins a perfectly good lineup of Bill Murray movies for Father's Day?  Having the sound out of sync with the picture.  All day long.  No one noticed it?  I once went to the movies when the film inexplicably shifted onto the wall.  A group was up at light speed to go get the manager and demand money back.  When it's basic cable, there is no recourse I guess.  Except watching USA.  Bill Engvall and Jim Carrey aren't very good substitutes for crazy Murray, though.  Haha. Characters Welcome.

Tired of waiting

So I've been checking in on occasion to see what resk is going to post about the show.  He staved off death during hell week, and apparently has collapsed into a pile of misery.  So I'm going to post something, as I am now in competition with darness for some sort of San Franciscan magic cookies.
I wanted to share with you a particularly precious little sight gag we pulled off.  After Rick's initial entrance, he returns on like page 23 and doesn't speak until like page 25.  During this time we had Rick meander around the conversing guests. Willum gets up and offers him a seat on the ottoman.  Rick ignores Willum, strolls right by the ottoman and proceeds to wedge himself onto the sofa with Axel and Tansy.  In the Smith's basement during rehearsals it was funny.  On stage, with the tiny red two person loveseat we had on the stage, it was HYSTERICAL.  I took a snap that captures a little of the scene.

Mild PSD (Post Show Depression) and Notes about Directing

Thanks to those that came and saw resk rock it out as The Nerd (aka Rick Steadman).  I am still basking in the glow of what turned out to be a successful production.  I was blessed with a talented cast, all of whom I had performed with at some point, and therefore it was easy to trust my actors to "bring it" at crunch time.  Therefore, I wasn't nearly as "obsessive" as resk says he was (he was).  I can credit an open attitude toward ideas from the cast and crew.  I gave them more leeway than I have experienced in the past.  Does that make me a bad director? At points, I think they craved a little more feedback, but I can assure you that the final product had a great portion of my character and my personality in it.  I was very pleased.  My cast made me look good.  But then again, I had a little bit more to do with the final product than you might think.  I'm gonna miss it.
Man, I am so going to miss it.
